Data Controller
This Cookie Policy applies to the websites and applications operated by MBP Enterprises LTD (company number 16058795), registered at 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. Smarteaming is a product of MBP Enterprises LTD. For questions about our use of cookies, contact us at contact@smarteaming.com.
1. What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the site owner. Local storage (also called "web storage") is a similar technology that allows websites to store data locally in your browser. Unlike cookies, local storage data is not sent to the server with every request. Both cookies and local storage data remain on your device until they expire or you delete them.
2. Cookies We Set
We set the following strictly necessary cookies: (a) NEXT_LOCALE — stores your language preference (English, French, or Dutch) so the website displays in the correct language on subsequent visits (duration: 1 year, first-party, set when you switch language); (b) auth_token — an HttpOnly, Secure session cookie set by our server upon sign-in to authenticate your requests to the Smarteaming application (duration: session, first-party, never accessed by client-side scripts). These strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the ePrivacy Directive.
3. Marketing and Advertising Cookies
With your consent, our marketing website uses Google Ads conversion tracking. When you accept marketing cookies via our cookie banner, Google Ads may set the following cookies on your device: (a) _gcl_aw — stores click information from Google Ads to attribute conversions (duration: 90 days); (b) _gcl_dc — used by Google to attribute conversions from Display & Video 360 (duration: 90 days); (c) _gac_* — contains campaign information for Google Ads (duration: 90 days). These cookies are only set after you give explicit consent. They are used solely to measure whether clicks on our Google Ads lead to sign-ups on our service. We do not use this data for profiling or retargeting. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing the "smarteaming-cookie-consent" entry in your browser's local storage or by clearing your cookies; the consent banner will reappear on your next visit.
4. Local Storage We Use
On the Smarteaming application (app.smarteaming.com), we use browser local storage to improve your experience. The following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to third parties: (a) isNightMode — your theme preference (dark or light mode); (b) selectedLanguage — your chosen language; (c) selected_team — the last team you selected, so the app opens to the right view; (d) hasSeenCalendarTutorial — whether you have completed the calendar tutorial, so it is not shown again; (e) teams_and_competences — cached role and competence data for faster loading; (f) team_features — cached feature flags for your team; (g) cached salary rates and pricing data — for faster display of payroll and pricing information; (h) smarteaming_app — a flag to detect whether you are using the native mobile app wrapper. On the marketing website (smarteaming.com), we use local storage for: (a) smarteaming-theme — your theme preference (dark or light mode); (b) smarteaming-cookie-consent — stores whether you accepted or declined marketing cookies.
5. Third-Party Requests
Our marketing website loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When your browser requests these fonts, Google receives your IP address and standard browser headers. Google may log this information in accordance with its own privacy policy. Google does not set cookies through the Google Fonts service, but the font request itself constitutes a data transfer. If you have accepted marketing cookies, scripts from Google Tag Manager (googletagmanager.com) and Google Ads (googleads.g.doubleclick.net) are also loaded; these enable conversion measurement as described in the "Marketing and Advertising Cookies" section above. We do not control and are not responsible for how Google processes data collected through its own services.
6. Cookies We Do Not Use
For clarity, we confirm that we do not use: analytics or statistics cookies (such as Google Analytics, Hotjar, or Clarity); social-media tracking cookies or pixels (such as Facebook Pixel or LinkedIn Insight Tag); retargeting or behavioural-advertising cookies; any form of cross-site tracking or fingerprinting.
7. Your Rights and How to Manage Cookies
Strictly necessary cookies (NEXT_LOCALE, auth_token) are exempt from consent requirements. Marketing cookies (Google Ads) require your consent and are only set after you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing the "smarteaming-cookie-consent" value in your browser's local storage; the cookie banner will reappear. You can also delete or block cookies at any time through your browser settings. Please note that if you delete the NEXT_LOCALE cookie, the website may default to detecting your language from your browser settings. If you delete the auth_token cookie, you will be signed out of the application. Most browsers allow you to: view what cookies are set; delete individual cookies or all cookies; block cookies from specific or all sites; set preferences for first-party and third-party cookies.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
